Shar and I got Shizuoka-ken. No word on the city yet. Pretty much our first choice! I'm excited.

Is this more proof that the placement isn't a crap shoot and more a matter of if they have space or not?

I've also read that about half of the green tea consumed in Japan grows in Shizuoka, and there is a place where we can go to pick our own teas. I love tea!

I loooove Shizuoka. In fact, I have been there 3 times already. Great place! I kind of envy you guys XD. Make sure you learn the 方言. It's pretty bad ass.

Now that we know where everyone on this forum is going, can we start making plans for a reunion? ^^;

Sounds like a good idea. You'd be best at setting up the dates and places though since you know the general schedules that new JETs follow and how stressed and crazy things can be at the start.

Howbout Hokkaido? Corn, dairy, and beer!

Hokkaido would be cool too! During February they have the Yuki Matsuri. I wasn't able to go this year, but I REALLY wanna check it out. =)

I wonder what kind of famous festivals does Shizuoka have (or The Shiz, as another SF JET calls it).

As in this definition? Because it just makes me think of Shiz University in Wicked.

Congratulations to everyone! It's so exciting... if all goes as planned and I'm back in Japan by springtime, I'll be able to visit all you JETs before my work/school kicks into gear!

Don't want to derail the topic, but in a nutshell: considering attending language school in the spring, because I don't want to settle for just any job that will get me into Japan.

Not a bad idea... getting language up the best you can opens a lot of power.

All I know so far about Okayama is that it's known for the white peaches (Momotaro yo) and there is the Naked Man Festival. And 3 well known hot springs (can't think of the names right now).

Hell. Yeah.

Looks like I'll be doing a bit of traveling, oooh

Oh man, I hope I don't have to drive...

Question for those in Japan-
About how long did it take from when you arrived to get set up completely on cell phone and internet? I've heard it can take a while before I'm back online and connected with the outside world.

You can get a cell phone once you have your Alien Registration Card; how long it takes to get one depends on every ward in Japan. I'd say about a week is typical, for Tokyo at least. And the internet... don't expect them to some and set everything up for at least a month. It was torture!
